The digitalization in progress
in Procida & Ischia
The last trip to Procida and Ischia has been
again a very fruitful one. Between baths and relaxation, our work of
digitalization has made excellent progress: 1 day spent in Procida and 3
days spent in Ischia have produced unexpected results!
-
The remaining registers of ISCHIA PONTE
and CAMPAGNANO have been completed.
-
Our repeated efforts early this year have
finally been converted into success for the parish of San Giorgio of
TESTACCIO, digitalizing 13 registers!
-
Idem for the parish of San Sebastiano of
FORIO miraculously unblocked with 7 registers digitalized.
-
Several registers of the souls have also
been digitalized in PROCIDA.

Genealogy Days on 30th
September
and 1st October in Le Cannet (France)
 This
manifestation is organized by the « Cercle Généalogique du Pays Cannois ».
Like last year, our Association will be represented and will have its own
stand. Jean-Pierre & Nicole FLORIO, Danielle LIMA, Frédéric & Valérie
ASSANTE DI CAPILLO will welcome you throughout the week-end and provide you
with information on our Association and its activities.

Preparation of our second General Meeting
on 17th July 2007
With the support of the Mayor of Procida, Gerardo LUBRANO LAVADERA, I have
the great pleasure to announce that our second General Meeting will take
place on 17th July 2007 in Procida, followed by 2 days of excursions
organized by the Association, like in 2005.
The provisory program of these 3 days of festivities looks like:
-
17th
July: General Meeting in Terra Murata in the ex-orphanage, followed
by a visit of the Abbey and the adjacent castle.

18th
July: Boat tour of the islands of Procida and Ischia, with meal in
Forio and visit of the archaeological museum of Lacco Ameno.
-
19th
July: Coach trip to the Phlegrean Fields (Pozzuoli, Solfatara, Cuma,
Monte di Procida…).
[IMPORTANT] Please find attached the participation form and if you
wish to attend, please fill it in and send it back to me as soon as possible
along with your payment.
I will then be able to proceed with the booking of your accommodation for
the summer 2007, and finalize the program and the tariffs of each excursion,
depending on the number of participants.
Also, I am looking for volunteers who would like to divide their research,
present a topic, or tell their stories… Do not hesitate to contact me and
propose your ideas.

The new search engine for our Web site
Started on
1st July with the help of a student in computing, this project is
actually asking a lot more personal time and efforts that I had thought.
A month
has been necessary and useful to define and clarify the requirements of the
Association and create the structure of the database, taking into account
the possible and future evolutions.
In fact,
the project goes far beyond a simple search engine for the web site, as it
will allow you to authenticate yourself, search using multiple criteria and
order certificates online, consult your current balance and update your
member profile.
Also, for
those who work for the Association, a dedicated interface will allow you to
check and update certificates directly into the database, or deal more
easily with the orders of certificates received in the system.
Today, the
structure of the database has been validated and the programming of the Web
interface has begun.
All this
requires daily supervising of the student to guide him, work with him making
the right technical choices, and to ensure he progresses in the best way.
Henri SCOTTO DI VETTIMO works with me for the validation of the interface,
the writing of the different documentation, and the ergonomic choices…
The launch
of this new system was initially planned for the 3rd anniversary of the
Association (on 15th October), but it is now obvious that a couple of months
more will be necessary to finalize the project and ensure it becomes a
success for all.

Proposal for digitalizing the state archives of the Town of PROCIDA
During my
July discussion with the Mayor of Procida regarding our next General
Meeting, I also had the opportunity to give him our official proposal for
digitalizing the registers of births, marriages and deaths of the Town of
Procida, from 1811 until 1900.
Strong of
our previous success and contribution to the tourism and culture of the
island, the Mayor complimented us on the work achieved so far and welcomed
the project with much interest. It should be deliberated soon by the Town
Council and if the vote is positive, the project will be added to this year
or next year financial forecast.
The work
being too important to be carried voluntarily, some funding has been
requested to the Mayor in order to finance the equipment necessary and pay
for the salary of our local employee.
